March Madness… The Home Reno is Still Going Strong!

Uncategorized

March 21, 2018

Want to catch up on everything home reno related?? See the progress from beginning until now with my roundup posts by month:

I’ve been kicked out of daily drop-ins to the house for the past FIVE days and I am still having withdrawals… our first round of hardwood floor stain went down late last week, so we are having to let them finish everything before we return and it is KILLING me!!!

Before everyone asks what color we chose, let me preface this by saying that I left the color choice on this aspect up to Jeff because he always HATED our previous color for our red oak floors. I will agree, it had a red/orange undertone and the shiny finish wasn’t my favorite detail, but I always knew something better was coming.

The floor team was kind enough to sample out three different stain options for us so we could see the slight differences in each and in the end, we selected ½ Ebony ½ Jacobean. It’s dark enough to make the hubby happy, but it’s also practical and not too dark, considering he lives with girls who have LOTS of hair ;).

We also went with a satin finish, so it looks not as “glossy” as it previously did and the end result is going to be stunning! Here are a few pictures with the first coat on:

Moving on to other house updates, the past month has been my favorite so far… SO many things are changing and starting to really look finished and I can start to envision some of the furnishings and design details we’ve picked out and what that will look like SOON.

For instance, the paint… paint has gone up in the interior of the house now and I’m seeing so much WHITE. We went with Benjamin Moore Pure White throughout, including painting the crown molding and trim the same color, yet in a higher gloss finish for some contrast. However, of course we went bolder in the bedrooms with some rich tones from Farrow and Ball, specifically in the guest bedrooms…

Having said that, my favorite paint job by far has to be the master bedroom. Some people called us crazy [and I’m sure some still will], but we were in complete agreement with Kendall’s recommendation to do a dark color with the same color of trim. It’s absolutely STUNNING in person and I couldn’t be happier. I’ll be sharing the final paint colors/names once we do the final reveal so stay tuned for that!

Other major updates include the outdoor patio area. Given that we have a small, courtyard type-lot, we knew we wanted to take out the majority of the “green space” and make it into more of an outdoor living area. The concrete has been poured, the fire pit has been dug, and then other elements are coming soon—including the outdoor kitchen, built-in bench seating, pergola to cover the dining space and then we are installing Pennsylvania Blue Stone pavers over the concrete—another one of Jeff’s splurges, but then again he grills so much that I was happy to oblige!

Finally, let’s talk tile… oh goodness, I was nervous about the tile selections. Not because I didn’t love them because I was over the moon excited for everything we picked out, but it’s one thing to see it in a small square sample versus a giant room full of tile, right?!?!? We had one hiccup with tile that was quickly fixed [thank goodness we caught the error quickly], but our tile is complete and it is completely amazing!!!

We kept it simple for the girls’ and guest bathrooms, mostly with white subway tile, penny tile flooring, but we went above and beyond for our vintage-inspired master bath and I can’t believe how amazing it looks. Classic white marble with black accent tile, and then decorative “tile rugs” in front of the cabinetry and in the walk-in shower make this mama squeal like a kid on Christmas!!! Pictures just don’t do it justice.

So there you have it… March in a whirlwind! The next few weeks promise even more excitement with our custom cabinet installations throughout, final coats of interior paint and floor stain, and other big items to tackle before lighting goes in in late April… only three more months to go and then we will be calling this construction project complete = yippee!!!
