Family Fun in Atlanta

August 15, 2019

This month’s summer motto was TRAVEL and that’s exactly what we did… from west coast California fun all the way to Knoxville, Atlanta and lake weekends scattered throughout, it made for one WILD summer for our little foursome! I’ve been wanting to share about last month’s Atlanta adventure–the capital of the south, which makes for the perfect family getaway… for us, it was the ideal drive-able destination –a mere 3.5 hours from Nashville and from so many other major metropolitan southern cities too!

THE ACCOMMODATIONS

We stayed at Hilton Downtown which is easily accessible via the interstate and makes walking to local attractions and must-stops a breeze.

We grabbed one of their suites, which is great when traveling with little ones. Jeff and I were able to stay up later and catch up on some television, while the babies slept peacefully in the bedroom in the next room. They also offer a Starbucks on the main floor, an amazing workout center packed with all the machines I use most, and a little market/grocery center for grabbing snacks and eats.

THE ATTRACTIONS

Georgia Aquarium | Jeff and I visited the aquarium years ago, but had been waiting to take the girls and this summer presented the perfect opportunity! So much to see–including the only whale sharks in the US, beluga whales [my personal favorite!], penguins, and so much more… the girls LOVED it and it made for the best way to spend a summer Friday!

Watch the Waves Romper | A Good Day Tank and Seashells Shorts

World of Coca Cola | Another major highlight for me, as I had never been before, even though I’ve been to the ATL so many times… it was truly an experience to see the memorabilia behind the household brand, how it came to be, learn more about the history and bottling of the beverage and of course, the tasting room!

Atlanta Movie Tours, The Hero Tour | If you’re movie buffs like our little family, you’re going to want to hop on one of these tours and see the behind-the-scenes action of some of your favorite movies, especially if you love Avengers, Superman, and other hero films–before this, I had no idea how much the Atlanta movie industy is booming, but the girls and Jeff were thrilled to see where some of their favorites were filmed. Such a great idea for summer too because most of the tour is indoors ?

Atlanta Botanical Garden | Next up was a stroll through the GORGEOUS gardens inside Piedmont Park… this summer’s special theme was all about Alice in Wonderland, which made my princess-loving ladies oh so happy!! So many fun exhibits to see, packed into this incredible garden with views of the city, incredible landscapes and a perfect place to spend a long summer afternoon. The popsicles for a snack break didn’t hurt either ;).

Atlanta United Football Club | So this is one of those things you’ve just got to experience in person for yourself… the Atlanta United game was hands down my favorite attraction in Atlanta… the crowds and fans get so into it, the stadium is absolutely unbelievable, and the match-up with against Montreal made for a really good game! I would highly recommend this for any sports-loving family!!!

Skyview Atlanta | Finally, we can’t forget to mention another major HIGHlight of the trip… the Skyview Wheel! The nicest ferris wheel I’ve ever been on and one that our girls sure won’t forget anytime soon. So much fun taking in the ATL city skyline in this enclosed, gondola-style ride–we were there right at dusk when it lights up the night so it made it even more special!

THE EATERIES

Tin Lizzy’s Cantina | Easy and delish Meixcan, this was always a must when I ventured to ATL during my market days! Family friendly, and the best soft tacos in town!

Amalfi Pizza | Absolutely incredible, Italian-style pizzeria downtown… the signature Pizza Amalfi is one of the best I’ve had and I’ll definitely be back on our next trip

Trader Vic’s | If you want a fun “theme” style eatery, this is a fun one to take in! It so reminds me of Ohana at Disney World and the food/atmosphere was really cool! P.S. their scallops were out of this world tasty!!!

Ponce City Market | The ideal “food hall” when everyone in your party wants something different… I’ve been before and the market won’t let you down! Fun rooftop views with entertainment the whole family can enjoy
