Welcome to Our Dream Home: our Master Bedroom by Kendall Simmons

Uncategorized

January 11, 2019

Are you missing this series yet?!?!? Just when you thought I forgot, I promise you it only gets better from here. A few weeks ago when things were still merry and bright, I revealed our Colorful Mudroom [you can see that one here], but now we are moving on to everything dark and tranquil, otherwise known as The Master Bedroom.

When I started thinking of what I wanted our master boudoir to look like, Kendall Simmons and I instantly knew we wanted to go bold in our bedroom. We increased the floor plan of our master by knocking out a covered side porch on our house, which was turned into our new sitting area and I am SO glad we did this. It truly opened up the space, made it tremendously larger AND has given us a place to relax, which has been super useful for both Jeff and I.

With that, we knew we had a lot more options in terms of paint and going for one all-over paint color from ceiling to floor. I’m not going to lie, I was really nervous because I knew this was a bigger gamble than other rooms we had thought up, but the finished product is absolutely stunning… it’s peaceful, calming and a serene retreat for us at the end of the day.

Our Master Bedroom Designed by Kendall Simmons:

First things first, let’s talk about our sitting area in more detail. What other place in your bedroom does it make PERFECT sense for a velvet couch, right?!?! The natural light this space brings into our room is absolutely incredible and it makes waking up each morning much more enjoyable… no worries though, our custom designed drapery has rods that help us easily open and close our window treatments for a peaceful night of sleep.

I love this custom commission piece of abstract art from Katy Garry. This acrylic on paper piece brings in a pop of color and it pairs perfectly in the sitting nook. We then had it sent to Framebridge and ordered their Gold Bamboo Frame, which made it a stand out success!

More gorgeousness in terms of lighting came from my friends at Stray Dog Designs with these matching Wheat Table Lamps. You know I absolutely love EVERYTHING Stray Dog creates and these are no exception… the paper mache style really warms up the space!

Another MAJOR win worth noting includes this massive Bone Inlay Floor Mirror from CB2. I had told Kendall from day one a must-have for our master was a floor length mirror based on my blog and fashion needs, and she found the best out there–it’s well made and even more stunning in person. Definitely an investment, but one that absolutely fits this space and stands out!

Moving onto the bedroom side of our master, let’s get down to business with the priority: the KING SIZE bed. Can you believe up until now Jeff and I only had a queen?? Cue the confetti friends because this has been the biggest game-changer for us and yes, we LOVE our bed. We went with a Saatva Luxury Firm King Size Mattress and it’s absolutely heaven on Earth–the height is just right with the perfect amount of firmness to suit both the king himself, haha, get it?!?! Their white glove delivery service was spot on and I can’t say enough great things about Saatva because you can design it depending on your preferences.

Now let’s talk gingham–and yes, this is the #1 question I’m asked about when it comes to our bedroom… the giant gingham bed… it’s even more incredible in person and it absolutely is my favorite design detail! When Kendall showed it to us in our design meeting, it was an instant YES in my book–it took a bit of time and effort to get it here safely, but it was WELL worth the wait and I love it more now!

To contrast the patterned bed, we went with simplistic and chic classic white bedding from Annie Selke–impeccably made and easy to wash and put right back on for a peaceful night of sleep. We then added a deep Indigo Duvet Cover to flank the foot of the bed to make it a bit more masculine, which helps tie-in the other muted, deep blue tones around the room.

Finally, before I wrap this one up, I wanted to be sure I called out Kendall Simmons newest blog post–all in the name of her top 1o favorite blue paints, which includes the shade she used for our Master Bedroom (Farrow and Ball, Hague Blue). Such a great and informative post if you’re looking to change up the tones in your home this year, too!!

As always, be on the lookout for the next room reveal… our Master Bathroom is next in line and you won’t want to miss this one–seriously, think vintage 1920s hotel chic = coming oh so soon. OXOX
