Rolling into Paso Robles | Days 1 and 2

vacation recap

November 1, 2017

Hey hey hey… I’ve been dying to do a little show and tell about our California trip from a few weeks ago, and a few of you have emailed me about our last-minute change of itinerary, so I wanted to be sure to do a fun trip recap of all the amazingness that is Paso Robles! For easy reference, you can also see a ton of our vacation highlights via Instagram by inputting #rollingintorobles

We started the day bright and early and flew from BNA –> OAK and arrived around 11AM Pacific, which was fantastic so we didn’t miss a full day due to travel. Once we arrived and got our rental vans, we headed to San Jose for lunch at The Farmer’s Union. Amazing sandwiches and options for lunch = such a great place for large groups, too! We then made the 2.5 hour trip to Paso Robles and checked into our home away from home [AKA VRBO Hacienda del Sol]. It was absolutely beautiful and a perfect place for our group of 14 to stay together… pool tables, shuffleboard, darts, bocce and tennis and plenty of bedrooms for sleeping = highly recommend!

After some exploring and resting, we headed to to the Paso Robles downtown area that night for dinner at Fish Gaucho. So many people told us to eat there and it didn’t disappoint… be sure to grab the Short Rib Enchiladas and a tasty margarita when you visit!

Day 2 started off with a bang as our driver came to pick us up at our house and then we headed to our first winery of the trip… Tobin James. They definitely made us feel right at home, and since it was some of our friends’ first visit for a tasting, they helped explain how to sniff, taste, etc and we tried a TON of their varietals… my favorites included the 2014 Sangiovese and the 2012 Port, which is used to make their famous “TobinTinis”–trust me, if you go, try one because they are SO good!!

Afterwards, we headed to Cass Winery for another tasting and lunch… the scenery was out of this world spectacular and the weather couldn’t have been better! We opted for some fun outdoor photo sessions because it was such a great atmosphere and we loved their wines. Our final winery was Justin Wine, which definitely had more of a “Napa” feel to it… a little more formal in nature, but it was great to get to sit outside and enjoy the afternoon sunshine, while taking on friends in a friendly game of cornhole! Since we weren’t quite ready to head home, we headed into town and went to Barrelhouse Brewing Company for some beer action and more yard games and then the girls and I walked to Paso Wine Shine and met the fabulous owner, Patrick, who made us feel right at home! After a few shots, we loaded up on the goods and headed home to get ready for dinner.

Thursday evening, we got our Ubers and made our way to Artisan, which was probably my favorite meal of the trip. The Mushroom Toast was spectacular and the Hangar Steak entree was a table favorite… another lively, loud and oh so fun dinner out with our group = never a dull moment!!
