Back to School | The Highs and The Lows

Uncategorized

August 23, 2017

I should probably preface this post… the only lows have been from me and trying to deal with all the “changes” in our lives that are certainly a lot to figure out. Hormones I guess, or maybe I’m just totally losing it, but the girls have adjusted perfectly to their new routine, and I’m just trying to make it through the day without crying, getting sad, or whining about how much time I am spending in the car pickup lines each day [haha, it’s true and yes I know, this is a first world problem].

The week before we went back to school, I treated each of the girls to a day date, so we could spend some quality time together, doing a little lunching and shopping for shoes and of course, spoiling them before getting back into the daily hustle and bustle. Thank goodness they happily obliged and we had the best time! We then had a few of our friends over for a tote bag decorating party… Caroline had chosen pom pom fringe and applique patches for hers and then purple glitter for some extra “bling”. That’s my girl, more is always more 😉

Carson was up first for her Pre-K Mother’s Day Out and she has been SO happy to start going five days a week this year… mostly to see her best friends Nola and Betsy everyday, but she also has Ms. Gina, Caroline’s teacher from last year, so it’s been an easy transition for my wild woman! Her favorite part??!?! Not having to take a nap anymore… HAHA.

Then it was time for Tuttie’s first day of Kindergarten. We were lucky in that we had two half-days to get acclimated to her teacher, class and school last week, so that helped each of us not get so overwhelmed with so much “new”. She absolutely LOVES her kindergarten teacher and we feel so fortunate that we’re in a wonderful school with so many friends and neighborhood kids, too! Her favorite part?!?! Getting to buy her lunch on Friday, to which she told me she got a free chocolate chip cookie with her pizza… glad to know school lunch hasn’t changed all that much!

To admit, it’s been a juggling act. Jeff’s been out of town every week and I am trying to balance it all… we then added in gymnastics to the weekly schedule, though I’m thrilled the girls’ classes are at the same time so I can bring my laptop and work while they tumble. I know it’s going to take some time to get accustomed to this new “stage” of life, but I can’t help get a little sappy every once in awhile. To all you mamas out there who make this look easy, I salute you BIG TIME! Big hugs to all of you other friends out there who are going through big changes with school and such… I hope you’re hanging in there, too!

So sweet! I can tell you as a mom to a college freshman and a high school freshman, it goes by at lightening speed. It’s so bittersweet to see them grow and spread their wings but I’ll be honest, it’s so hard to see that happen. ? My greatest joy is seeing them become kind, compassionate, caring and responsible adults while they are both in the homestretch of their schooling. I couldn’t be more proud of them and the people they are becoming. I wish you all the best in these formative years. They are a lot of hard work but tons of fun too. Hold on and savor each day! ?

School is a huge adjustment! Do your schools have a bus system you trust? I know a lot of us moms were hesitant at first but they have been life savers and cuts out the hours we spend in traffic.

  3. Caley says:

Well done mama, this adjustment is massive for all of you!!
My SJ starts at a new school next year which is a good 25 minute drive away (as opposed to the 5 minute drive we have now!) and that is going to take some serious planning and organizing!
Love these pics and memories x
