Making Home Mine || Restructuring Our Mudroom

Uncategorized

October 10, 2016

I’m a HomeGoods kind of girl… aisles and aisles of endless, unique finds and accessories that make my heart happy. Somewhere that helps to transform a space into something useful and special is just the place I like to spend my money!
You can find me visiting my HomeGoods store every few weeks, eyeing their new arrivals and stacking my cart full of goodies to bring home with me, and yes, I might have asked the employees their shipment days so I can be among the first to shop their latest and greatest. They make it easy for all of us to find budget-friendly, on-trend home decor and accessories that stand out from the rest.

The Challenge.
Our home’s back entryway AKA mudroom set-up is fairly simple, but I have yet to find components to keep things organized where everyone’s “stuff” has a true place to reside. Our family of four is constantly coming in and out of this space and it has sadly been overlooked in terms of making it functional for everyone. It usually gets overtaken by dance bags, multiple pairs of shoes, purses, wallets, keys, and mail and it is a constant annoyance for this work-from-home mama.
Here are a few before pictures of the mudroom, just so you can get acquainted with the space and how it is in desperate need of some form and function!

The Task.
Today I’m going to take you on a little journey, having you join in the fun and accompany me on my shopping trip to HomeGoods where I found the PERFECT items to make proper use of this space.
Now before we get started, here is a little inspiration of the space per my Mudroom Pinterest Board. Granted, we are going to start working on the structural design of the back half of our home in the next few months, so I wanted to select accessories that would work well in the space once it’s painted and transformed with some other useful integrations, but mostly I wanted organization with pops of color and unexpected ways to make sure everything has a home.

And now we’re off…to my favorite home away from home, HomeGoods. And yes, this is practically the only time you’ll ever see me with an empty cart… the moment I enter the doors!

I usually have a set path/game plan for when I visit HomeGoods, and that’s to start at the back and work my way up… smart thinking, right?!?!?! I headed straight to the rugs and was instantly smitten with these woven Moroccan-style rugs in a host of colors… my head was spinning with ideas, so I grabbed a pink and an orange option and loaded them in the cart. That set the entire tone for the space so now it was off to Mirrors and Wall Art to spice things up a bit on the otherwise plain walls.

From there, I snagged a reclaimed wood quote canvas that I thought Jeff would love, and then I headed to the aisles of pillows and blankets to get lost in my favorite colorful world of textiles.

Natasha, stay on track… step away from the Furniture!!! Oh those chairs and tables… I spy great deals to be had and they are calling my name. Back on to the real issue at hand AKA organization–now we’re heading to the land of baskets, with aisles of the best ones you can find anywhere, and yes, colored ones for my bad, bold self.

P.S. If you’ve yet to jump on the velvet hanger phenomenon, consider yourself punished… these are an absolute must and are a great price, too!!! I have stocked them up in my bedroom closet, so I decided to partake in some colorful options for our mudroom closet, too! And check out the tee tiny ones for the kiddos coats and jackets = score!

How do you think I did?!?!?! I know, a stocked cart is a happy cart and I had multiple shoppers telling me I found some majorly amazing things during my shopping trip… I’d consider this a success treasure hunt in my book.

The Finished Product.
So here you have it… this organized, happy little mudroom of ours now has a home for all the things we use daily and I can’t help but smile when I walk into it each day, considering it incorporates a bold color palette while still utilizing simple bins and baskets for everyone’s necessities.

Thanks to HomeGoods, you don’t have to spend a fortune to find on-trend home accessories and decor. Savvy shoppers like me can tackle projects for their home in a one-stop shop, at prices below department and specialty store prices.
