Tidbits of Fun and Back to Training Tuesday!

Uncategorized

January 4, 2011

Random post in no order whatsoever… jumping around on the page if you will:

1. I was so encouraged to get new running shoes for 2011… however I am sad to “retire” my old Asics–these puppies helped me finish my first 1/2 marathon and let me get to 550 miles last year… sad to sad goodbye, but excited for these new lovelies on my feet:

2. Meg and I are starting a book club this year and I couldn’t be more excited… we’ve never done this before so it will definitely be a work-in-progress, but we’re hoping to spend more quality time together with the girls and get our minds away from the TV and focused on more important things! Our first read is going to be Frances Chan’s “Crazy Love”
3. I spoiled myself yesterday at Anthropologie and bought the most adorable ruffled dress… it’s my very first honeymoon purchase I am so excited to start doing some fun shopping for wedding events–woo hoo!

4. Tonight, we’re headed to one of our fav resturants in town to celebrate Mrs. Rachel Gray’s birthday… even though she’s an AU grad, I can’t help but love that girl. And P.S. she kicks butt in any and EVERY game we ever play 😉

5. I–like every other twenty-something woman in America–tuned into ABC last night to see Mr. Brad Womack as the new Bachelor {again!}. Obviously from the 2 hour episode, we know that Deanna is still not over him dumping her though she is engaged to someone else, and ABC selected some weirdos to keep us on our toes this season… vampires, funeral directors, and manscapers–oh my! Front runners in my opinion include Emily, Ashley S {the nanny from NYC with that amazing gold one strap dress}, and Michelle.

6. I am going to reconvene my Training Day Tuesdays… with the new year and everyone on workout/health overload, I thought this would be a great time to start this over in 2011–not to mention, someone is in major wedding workout mode over here and I need to hold myself accountable.
Here’s my tips for making the most out of every workout at the gym:
  • Rise and shine early in the morning for your best workout–I promise, once you do something 10 times it becomes a habit, and it’s far easier to get it over with in the AM rather than after work when you’re already tired
  • Don’t forget the music!! My iPod is my necessity to run or else I am focused on everything but my workout–high energy music {think pop, rap, etc} is the best to get your adrenaline flowing and get you ready to pump some iron
  • Dont be afraid to ask for help. the people who work at the gym are there for a reason. If you’re unsure what muscle groups you should be targeting for specific trouble areas… ASK THEM! Dont be intimidated–it’ll help you in the long run.
  • Maintain a positive attitude… the weight won’t melt off overnight, but after lots of time spent fine tuning these muscles and areas, I promise you’ll see a difference in the way your clothes fit and how you feel when you stand in front of a mirror. This is the biggest payoff for me =)
  • Grab a buddy! If you just can’t do it alone, then don’t. Grab a friend and head to the gym for a fun cardio or dance class and make it all about time with your friends!
  • Dress the part. I find that if I dress the part, I feel better about myself when I workout. Workout clothes can be prciey, yet I find that my favorites are the ones I stocked up on from Target and Old Navy–pick pieces you can wear a lot and what you find comfortable…for me, this includes skorts/tight capris, tanks, a fun colored sportsbra, and a lightweight half zip jacket when it’s chilly.  Here are some newbies from Old Navy:
  1. I was hoping you would start Training Tuesdays again 🙂 I am training for my first half marathon this summer and will definitely be needing your advice 🙂 I love Old Navy and Target's workout clothes, too…but I've always been a sucker for Nike!

Have fun with the book club 🙂 I am going to look into your first book!

    Have a great Tuesday 🙂

  2. Caitlin says:

I've heard that Crazy Love is really good! I hope the book club goes well! Have a great Tuesday!

  3. Britt says:

I love that you are doing this! Cheers to being happy and healthy in 2011:)

  4. Caroline says:

Let us know how that book is. I think it's so fun that you're starting a book club! 🙂

  5. Rachel says:

haha! thanks for the shout out! what what! can't wait to celebrate over pizza, beer and my favorites! love you! and only because our season is not over yet… war damn eagle!! 😉

  6. I love your "training tuesdays"! Such a great idea! 🙂

  7. Ashley says:

I just started readying 'Crazy Love' too! Its pretty good and very inlighten I must say! Good luck with your workouts!

  8. Tiffany says:

Ooh, that ON workout stuff is cute! I got a couple of cute tops for running outside at Target. Lightweight, but they cut the wind.

  9. Kristen says:

Old Navy does have some cute workout stuff! I'm sad I missed the bachelor premiere last night…I'll have to catch up online. Shopping for wedding events and the honeymoon is SO fun! I may have gone overboard 🙂

  10. Melissa says:

Ooh! Glad to see Training Tuesdays! I am training for the Country Music Half this year and could use the extra help!

  11. I am training for a 1/2 in March and look forward to following along with Training Tuesdays! I have heard great things about Crazy Love, I need to pick myself up a copy!

  12. your blog is adorable! a new follower 🙂

  13. Maggie says:

I LOVED Crazy Love! I read it last year, and seriously it is sooo good! I'm also in wedding workout mode, and trying to get myself to be active again! Great tips.

  14. Nicole Marie says:

the nanny is my favorite! she's so cute!! and yeah weird vampire girl can go.

  15. CMae says:

I wanna see a pic of the Anthro dress!!!!! 🙂

  16. Couldn't agree with you more – Old Navy and Target are the places for great workout clothes. I also find relaly good loot at Marshalls and Ross 🙂

  17. Kerbi says:

I too love Old Navy's workout clothes! I think I may be the only twenty-something girl that doesn't watch The Bachelor!

  18. Leigh says:

Crazy Love is simply fantastic. Prepare for Chan to challenge you and flip your life upside down. Reading CL was a big part of the reason I decided to move to Nashville.

  19. MJ says:

    Great workout tips…

I of course watched last night too, so addicting!! I liked Emily, the hospital event planner and Ashley S. Can't wait to see what happens this season. 🙂

  20. I need to get new shoes badly. I think that will be my kick in the butt to really get into training again instead of being off and on. A 100 dollar pair of shoes will do that 😉 That's so funny your reading Francis Chan. I am working on some publicity for his new small group curriculum. Let me know how you like the book.

  21. Sarah Mina says:

I need new running shoes, too! I'm trying to get back into running as well, can't wait for your future training posts!

  22. Carroll says:

What great workout gear! Thanks for the tips!! I'm training for a 5k first and then we'll see where I go from there. 🙂 Can't wait to hear updates on the book. Happy New Year!

  23. vickdn says:

I hope Brad picks Emily! She is gorgeous and seems so sweet, and her story is super sad. Brad is cute and all, but seems so lame!
