One Room at a Time...The Powder Room

I'm a horrid blogger these days, and I know it. I think my actual readworthy posts are getting smaller and smaller and I feel like it's been packed with fluff for a bit, so let's get back to the good stuff that I am really excited to share.
By now you know we moved into our "new" house back in December, though I've yet to do a formal "house tour" otherwise known as I am too lazy to take pictures, upload them, yada, yada, yada, so instead, I am going to do a room by room glance as we get things done.
We have been here 5+ months now and have 1.5 rooms done...haha. A LONG WAY TO GO I assure you! It takes time, patience, money, and the ability to make a decision and I lack that ability apparently.
So without further adieu, here is the totally renovated powder room...

And I will forewarn you and let you know that when we moved in, there was gold foil damask wallpaper, a pedestal sink, and a urinal...yes, you read that correctly, a urinal. Apparently, the former owners had 3 boys and I guess the mom wanted to make it easy on them to use the potty?? Who knows. I will tell you it's the talk of the neighborhood and hilarious when we meet our neighbors and they say "oh yeah, you bought the house with the urinal". Lovely connotation, right? At least it's an interesting conversation topic I guess.
Some people prefer neutrals and white, and I prefer color...big bold color, especially in small spaces. As soon as I saw this wallpaper, it had to be mine and it was well worth the wait!! We had our contractor install wainscoting on the bottom half of the walls to add some dimension and I love the end product.
Next is the gorgeous bathroom's an antique gray-wash color with carrera marble and it was a piece I had been eyeing for a long, long time. We then added traditional sconces as well as a mini chandelier that I might have bought for Carson's room, too!
I love it when a room is easy to share...I could show you the toilet, though I'm all certain we all know what those look like and displaying those is just awkward to me anyways. So there you have it...our first completely finished room in the new Stoneking home. Thanks for letting me play show and tell! I know it's no designer before and after, but I am really proud of it.
BTW the wallpaper is by Thibaut Wallpaper Monterey Collection: Rivera / Blue on Flax

Room by Room House Tour...Carson's Nursery

I should be baby girl is 4+ months old and I am just now getting around to showing off her sweet little sanctuary. Where does the time go these days??
OK, so on to the tour! This nursery was QUITE a bit harder to put pen to paper than Caroline's, just because I wanted to do something totally different than the traditional pale pink I used for big sister. I finally arrived at a navy + coral pink + gold color colorway and once I was able to put all the elements together, the finished product was better than I hoped for.
Here is a little peak into little bit's nursery...
i'm in LOVE with her crib...the very first item I bought was this balloon print,
which inspired the room's design
such a cozy space...we spend lots of time here each night rocking to sleep
the gallery wall and rocking chair nook
that's Ralph the dog...some of you may remember Caroline has Benjamin the Bear
so of course Aunt Denise and Uncle Robert decided Carson needed one, too ;)
the changing table/dresser...recognize that mirror?? great find at Home Depot!
her bookcase and wall rack for sweet mementos
and her mini closet...daddy and I had to get creative on how to make this work
I have been DYING to show this space off, and I apologize for making you wait so long...  It's a sweet space for our button baby and she already feels quite at home in her nursery. Thanks for taking a little tour with me today. Sources featured below:

Room by Room House Tour...The Kitchen/Dining Area

This week's show and tell for the house is dedicated to the room I use most...the kitchen and dining area. As most of you know, this girl loves to cook and entertain and I have found this is the space we gather in, especially when we have people over. There is nothing better than having a table full of guests enjoying a homemade meal.
From when we first purchased the house almost four years ago, we painted the walls (this shade BM Hawthorne Yellow), changed out light fixtures over the island, table, and sink, and then added our own furniture and details to adorn the walls.
Here is a little peak at our kitchen and dining space...

Room by Room House Tour...The Master Bedroom/Bathroom

I think everyone wants one thing when they buy a home...a nice, comfortable place they can rest each night, right? I love our master bedroom-it's simple, serene, and calming. Before anyone asks (because I've had a ton of you do it before, the paint color is Porpoise by Behr and yes, it's the perfect shade of grey)
We didn't change much once we bought the house other than painting, bringing in new draperies, and adding our own furniture/decor, but it's my little escape and I love it to pieces. I think we did a fairly good job at mixing feminine with masculine, too!
can you tell daddy has been travelling??
and now into the master bathroom
 caroline's potty...lovely decor (haha)
And the its chaotic state (and yes, which is how it normally looks-true life).
You can tell the dry cleaning fairy just stopped by as well :)

Room by Room House Tour...The Formal Living Room

When looking for blog post inspiration, I started thinking that it has been QUITE some time since I have shown off pictures of the house...basically, the last time I showed it was when I was done with Caroline's nursery and boy, have we done some tweaking since then. I thought it would be fun to go room by room to point out details and such of each room. I am by no means a professional decorator, but I do have a pretty good idea of what I like/don't like so when I find something, I instantly love it or it goes back to the store.
First up, our main level "formal" living room. I use formal lightly, as it's difficult to have anything "formal" when you have two small children in your home. This is the room we use when guests are over, when Caroline gets up in the morning to play while I make breakfast,'s an open space, and one that I love because it gets so much natural light. And yes, there are toys everywhere in here on most days...these pics were taken when one wasn't home, and one was napping :)
one of my most prized great-grandmother's chair.

hoping to have it recovered once we move and decorate the new house

Christmas At Our House...Decor Time!

By no means did I have ample time {or energy, let's be honest} to devote endless amounts of holiday decorating around the abode this year, though I did manage to get most of our decorations out to make the house festive. There is just something about coming home, turning on the Christmas lights, lighting some candles, and snuggling on the couch to watch classic holiday movies...doesn't get much better than that.
You will notice very quickly that I love any and all nutcrackers...something my Mom has a fascination with as well--must be from all those years when my parents would take me to see The Nutcracker at the Ballet!
Here is a little peak at our house, all decorated for Christmas!

The entryway...ho ho ho!

The favorite silver reindeer...courtesy of none
other than Pottery Barn {surprise!}
Our new nativty set...I have been on the hunt for a small,
simple one for years and I finally found it
Our gold and silver tree...the real frasier fir!

Our sentimental tree...filled with ornaments from
our travels and our childhood heirloom ornaments

That was all I could manage to do this year...outside we did simple white Christmas lights wrapped around our columns and on our landscaping and trees paired with fun and festive berry wreaths and a burlap nutcracker. Now I just have to remind myself to take pictures of the outside so you can see ;)

Home Status As of Late

In case you've been living under a rock recently, you know Jeff and I are on a serious mission to finish decorating our house... I am so ready to finish what we have started and we've made some serious progress lately:

Living Room
mastered a lovely console table ensemble (with a FABULOUS mirror) + hung some fun new pieces of art + put up a picture ledge...

yes, we need actual pictures to put in them =)

now i'm experimenting with mantle pieces/decor and searching for side tables

Dining Room
table + covered parsons chairs + rustic bench + my candlescape and runner + 2 prints from a homespun Franklin store + colorful buffet wall clock= one happy girl

**to finish the room, we'll be installing a new chandelier and either a mirror or a wine rack/glass holder on the left side of the window

after we painted the kitchen a different color, we began to love this room
that we use everyday even more...
now we're on the hunt for backsplash for the counters, new pendant lighting to go above the island and sink, and a fun pot rack for the island

Guest Rooms
#1: added a gorgeous upholstered chair and now looking for small decor bits and pieces as well as a TV to call this room done!

#2: just brought home an fun oversized lamp + mustard yellow coverlet + ready to hang an oversized mirror... now we need a dresser, curtains, TV, and prints for the walls and then this one will be complete as well

the desk, rug, and hutch are all there, but loads more to go...
i need to add a bookcase/filing cabinet + boards and supply holders to the walls + and fun accessories + a sophisticated upholstered chair and then I can retreat to "my space" whenever I like

Such a long way to go, then I remind myself that we have made tremendous headway given the fact that we have only lived in our house 1 full year as of February... at least this gives me excuses to scour my favorite design blogs and websites and renew my home magazine subscriptions for added styling to the abode =)
