A Nashville Experience | The Grand Ole Opry

Thursday, March 23, 2017

Nashville... AKA Music City! Apparently we are quite the group destination as of late! I am constantly getting emails and messages about what to do when you visit our beloved "little" big town, so I thought it would be fun to give you a sneak peak into an absolute must-do when you come to see us...

It's called the Grand Ole Opry and I can promise you it lives up to its name! It' is more than 92 years old and it's still as grand as ever... it's been broadcast from six different locations since it's inaugural show and now it's permanent home is the Opry House. In addition, if you visit during winter months [November through February], the show plays at the famous Ryman Auditorium, which is an amazing sight to see when you visit Nashville!

A few weeks ago, Jeff and I made our way to the east side of town so that he could experience the greatness of the Opry... I couldn't believe he had never been before! We had FANTASTIC floor level tickets and the lineup was even better.

My favorite thing about this house of music?!?! The intimate feel, as there are only 4,400 seats so you're pretty up close and personal with each of the acts. And because it's a "variety show", each performer plays 2-3 songs so you never know who could turn up next!
For us, the lineup included Craig Campbell, Montgomery Gentry, Rhiannon Giddens [who blew us away--seriously Google her if you like bluegrass] and Old Crow Medicine Show... an amazing roundup of talented musicians so needless to say it was a fun date night out.

Afterwards, we had VIP Backstage Tour passes... and yes, being the nosey person that I am, I loved finding out the details that make the show run, where the guests come in, what the dressing rooms look like, etc. If you're a country music fan--or a music fan at all--you'll LOVE this tour, I promise!

The house musicians hang-out room

musical shorthand... CRAZY to see how they learn so many songs in a matter of hours

The Opry members' mailboxes... our guide knew each and every one and who they corresponded to
so when you send them mail, they will get it to the right person!
More than 200 members have been inducted into the Opry... who will be next?!?!
Each dressing room is designed with a specific theme or person in mind... totally my favorite part of the tour and my top picks were the dressing rooms  dedicated to Minnie Pearl, Little Jimmy Dickens,  and Roy Acuff

Of course no visit is complete without a trip to the souvenir shop

Looking for a little more trivia and fun facts??

  11. I grew up going to the holiday shows at the Opry, but it wasn't until I hit adulthood that I really started taking advantage of the weekly shows. I now go at least 4-6 times a year when I've got friends visiting me. So fun!
