five on friday: my confessions || round three

vacation

January 29, 2016

You all seem to LOVE the confessional posts where we toss ourselves out there with the good, the bad, and the ugly so I thought I’d share some more confessions for my weekly Five on Friday post!
ONE || Hoarding scares the crap out of me and I am SO not one to “collect” things, though I have recently noticed I am an avid purchaser of napkins for parties, holidays, and such… Anyone else out there love them? Homegoods, Paper Source, and Swoozies are my jam and I can always find some goodies there under $10.
TWO || We let our nanny go last week… and as hard as it was, it took so much anxiety and stress off my plate that I knew it was the right choice. Luckily,we had been interviewing for quite some time and think we found “the one” and fingers crossed our new addition is the right fit… I think a full nanny breakdown blog post is in my future… anything specific you’d like to hear? I feel like I have a wealth of knowledge on this topic now, whether I’d like to or not. Damn you Mary Poppins for setting the bar so high!

THREE || Caroline’s birthday is less than two months away and of course planning is already in full swing [thanks to the fab Beth Hart Designs, per usual]… I might have just died a little bit inside when she said she wanted it at JumpStreet, but I know it’s HER party and she will be thrilled to have her little friends join in the Disney princess fun… adios to my “pretty” parties though I know Jeff is super excited. And of course, I had to add in a little something super special so her favorite Princess [AKA Cinderella] will be coming to play, too! Thanks fabulous friends at Party Belles of Nashville

FOUR || Ever feel like your heart and your head are telling you two different things? ‘m struggling with wanting to open a brick and mortar storefront for Sugar Bit… it’s been weighing on me for a very long time and it’s always been part of our five-year business plan, but it’s so overwhelming and I get anxious, scared, hesitant, etc. I am really trying to pray about what the future holds for our growing company and I am grateful for how far we’ve come, but I can’t lie… I desperately long to connect with our sweet customers face-to-face and serve a need for our local shoppers. Only time will tell, right?!?!

FIVE || We are starting to plan the details [AKA dining and experiences] for our Disney trip in September with our travel expert and there are so many options that it is completely overwhelming for an OCD/type-A person like myself. Thank heavens for Excel, a Disney guru, and easy to navigate websites to make it SO much easier! I best be saving my money for all the sweet matching ensembles, Bippity Boppity Boutique necessities, and all the other Disney treasures… oh Dole Whips I heart you so!

That’s all I’ve got for this week’s confessions my friends… hope I didn’t bore you too much with my rambling and nonsense. Excited for a fun weekend filled with family outings, baby registry fun for one of my best gals Saturday, church on Sunday, and catching up on some household chores before going out of town next week. Cheers

  5. I think a brick and mortar would be great!! And I would love to hear more about your nanny experiences…very intrigued!

  6. Erin says:

I would LOVE a post solely about having a nanny!

  7. Loving those birthday balloons.. And jealous that you are planning a trip to Disney!

  8. A brick and mortar store would be AMAZING! You go girl! I hope you can make that dream a reality!

  9. Sorry about your nanny friend – that is a big deal for us and our little ones! Praying for you and your precious family. Disney…. dream**

  10. Jennifer says:

While I'd love for you to have a brick and mortar – I also know it is a lot of work! Luckily for us – there are lots of fabulous Mama's here in our town that can help you make a decision!! I am intrigued about the nanny too – finding quality childcare is so hard! My expectations are high just like yours and I think that is okay! I hoard – I mean collect paper napkins too. My favorites say YAY on them! Henry had his 4th birthday at Jumpstreet and he loved it! Party Belles is awesome – they sent us a beautiful Belle for Evie's 4th birthday! I am sure you will still put your magical touch on Caroline's party! Cheers to the Weekend!

  11. SLH says:

I would love to read a "nanny post" as we toss the idea around sometimes. I was a nanny for a bit when I was in school. I have some questions like – Do you let your nanny drive your babies around in their own car or do you trust them to drive your cars? Both make me nervous. Since you work from home how does that dynamic work? When I nannied the mother worked from home and locked herself in her bedroom away from the kiddos and the hardest part of my job was trying to explain to the babies why their mother couldn't see them right then. Also, do they cook and clean for you or only childcare? So many questions! 🙂

  12. Just Jess says:

I love finding napkins for parties as well! Have fun on your Disney trip! I'm planning on going next January and I'm so excited! Jess at Just Jess

  13. I am in love with your office (#officegoals)! I have taken over our guest room with all of my sewing supplies finally deciding to open my Etsy shop. And horray for party planning! I need to get started on that for my daughter's 4th in April. Those balloons are so fun! Happy weekend!

  14. You'll regret the things you never do in life more than the things you do, so I say open a brick and mortar! You never know unless you toss that fear to the side, don't let your fear hold you back (easier said than done I know)

  15. Praying that you find the perfect nanny ! What a job that is looking for the one that will be a good fit for your family !

  16. Vanessa says:

Oh I sure hope this new nanny works out perfectly! And Disney planning makes me want to break out in hives…my sister's family has been three times and I'm making her save all of her notes!!! Also, how cute are you in you perfect office?!?

  17. Kelly says:

Yes! I need to work at the SugarBit store lady! 😉

  18. Samantha P says:

I'm a nanny until I'm done with my degree in May and I have to say it is an interesting job but definitely not for everyone. What I tell families right off the bat is that I can be lovely on paper because I'm smart, honest, dedicated, flexible and reliable, but that doesn't mean I'm the best fit for the family or that the family works for me.
Nannying is a very intimate position where professionalism isn't the same as it is anywhere else. You're in someone's home which requires a lot of trust between the employer and the employee. Also, the nanny's personality has to mesh with not only the parents but also the children. I can't tell you how many times I've said no to a job because I didn't feel good about working with the parents or working with the children. I'm fortunate that I'm awesome and so can afford to be picky on where I say yes and where I say no.

I would say if you're writing a nanny post, definitely include what I just talked about! 🙂

  19. Samma says:

Have you talked to Valerie about the store front stuff? I feel like y'all would hit it off, and she would have such a great perspective. Xoxo

  20. Would love to hear about a brick and mortar store for sugar bit and more about your nanny situation and disney planning!!

  21. I am a napkin hoarder, too!! I also have a collection of cloth dinner napkins! And yay…a storefront in the future sounds like an amazing venture! Every time I see a pic of your home office I swoon! Love it!

  22. Robin says:

Planning for Disney can be totally overwhelming. We just got back from 4 days there! My best advice would be to plan lots of downtime for the little ones, bring lots of snacks to the parks, and get your fast-passes early! The Disney app is great! We also purchased Memory Maker and it was the best decision! I didn't have to constantly pull out my camera and the photos show up instantly on the app from the professional photog. Plus you can download them and they are yours to keep. Happy planning!! It's lots of fun!!!
