Closing A Chapter

September 30, 2015

Today is going to be an emotional one at our house… it Alex’s last day and I can’t say I’m not a hot mess… forgive my sentimental AKA crazy hormonal self, but 3.5 years with her in our lives has gone by in a flash and nanny doesn’t do justice for what all this sweet gal has done for us.
When she came on board, I was 7 months pregnant with a 13 month old I was trying to chase around and it was pure insanity. I was in the process of starting Sugar Bit, Jeff was traveling more and more for work, and let’s just say I could barely keep up with everything in between [laundry, tidying up the house, cooking dinner, doing the dishes, etc].
That’s when our own version of Mary Poppins came into the mix and saved us all.
Alex, I want to say thank you… thanks for being there for us unconditionally, for loving my girls so well, for helping them learn and grow, and for everything else you’ve done for our little family.
From being our go-to babysitter to someone I knew I could count on, I genuinely mean it when I say you have helped me be a better mom and have taught me so many life lessons on what it means to nurture and love and teach. You have been like a family member… someone we genuinely love, respect, and care for and I’m going to miss seeing your happy face everyday.
Most of all, I hope you know how proud we are of you for taking this big step into the corporate world and we will be rooting for you to succeed in your new path! Change is hard and takes time to adapt [I’m telling myself this a lot as of late], but I know you will knock their socks off just like you did ours.
It’s not goodbye, it’s see you later… you can’t get rid of us that easily 😉 We love you Auntie A!

  1. Katie says:

I was a nanny throughout college and I have to say that your letter to Alex made me tear up! My situation was similar to yours– the mom of the family that I was with for five years worked from home all day, most days of the week, so it was up to me to take care of activity and school pick-up/drop-off, meals, bath time, bed time… it's a big job, but in between all of the crazy, you truly do become a part of the family. I left when I graduated from school but still keep in touch and get Christmas cards every year (so fun to see how fast the two kiddos are growing!), which is so nice. Be strong, mama and know you were lucky to have had such an awesome nanny experience 🙂

  2. Alex Hudson says:

And then I cried again 🙂 Thank you for the most amazing 3.5 years!!! I am going to miss you guys SO much!!! It has been the biggest privilege to watch the girls grow over this time! No way are y'all getting rid of me that easy 🙂 Love you guys so Much ❤ī¸â¤ī¸

  3. Finding a nanny is a lot of hard work and that person truly becomes apart of your family and you trust them with your precious babies! Understanding your pain and wishing you the best as you try to find a replacement.

  4. rachel says:

Awww!!! Alex is the best! Thinking of you today friend!

  5. As a former nanny myself Alex will appreciate this little sentiment so much! I was a nanny for two families one didn't treat me all too well, they did not appreciate what I did whilst the other family did. It makes such a difference when the family treat the nanny like one of their own. Sending hugs your way!

  6. Amy says:

Once upon a time I too was a nanny and the way you love Alex so well, I'm sure, will be/is appreciated by her!

  7. I was a nanny in college and it is truly one of the best gigs. I have been living 500 miles away from my nanny family for over 10 years now and we still connect and see each other often. How lucky you are to have found Alex and she you!

  8. Being a nanny is such a rewarding job! Alex was so lucky to have you!

  9. That's such a blessing that you had her, what a sweet letter, I'm curious how did you find her? I have been searching for a good nanny for years and people always tell me to find a good college student but how do you go about finding a good college student???

  10. I was a nanny for 2 years, and you really do become part of the family!! I'm sure you and your girls will forever love her 🙂

  11. Emily says:

So so sweet! Thinking about you friend! XOXO

  12. Brooke says:

Just swathe JCPenney giveaway on Instagram….would love to win the gift card and grab this leopard flats and some cute colored denim!

  13. This is so special – she really sounds amazing but I'm sure you have been an incredible family to work with too! I was an au pair for a few years and the little girl I took care of was my flower girl at our wedding and I attend her birthday party every year! x
