Spooky Time...

It's Halloween weekend my friends and all the goblins and ghouls are surely out to be dressed in their best. Sadly, Jeff and I aren't going to any parties this year so I didn't get to buy/make a fun! We SO would've gone as some of our favorite GTL groupies... something like one of these influentials:
Too  many other things going on to make room for the festivities of a costume party, but I already made him promise me we'll come up with something fabulous next year! {he still doesn't understand just HOW much I love this holiday}...
If I can ever get back to feeling like myself--have I mentioned how OVER being sick I am, we have a fun little weekend planned:
  • Dinner tonight at one of my fav places
  • Carving our little monsters AKA pumpkins
  • Visiting another local bridal shop for more MOB dress fun with Mom Saturday morning
  • Baking some of this and making some of this for my family's "Fall Fest" party tomorrow
  • Watching some of my favorite scary movies...Halloween, Friday the 13th, and The Shining
  • And of course dressing up on Halloween night for our neighborhood trick-or-treaters!!
Hope you all have a terrific halloween weekend!! Can't wait to see all the fun party pics and recaps on Monday =)

Halloween Candy-Lovers Unite!

Yes, the weekend I have been dreading is finally here... not really, I LOVE me some Halloween fun, but the thought of having to keep a stockpile of candy at my house and attempt to save it for the trick-or-treaters Sunday night has me running scared.
See, the problem my friends, is that I don't have strong willpower when it comes to the sweets and seeing it sitting there in my cute pewter pumpkin halloween bowl will just make me take 1 or 10--whatever... this week's "health nut" post is dedicated to the healthy halloween candy {if that can really exist??} and is brought to you by the lovely people at Women's Health Magazine:
Best Nutty Candy Bar: 100 Grand (190 cal)/Worst: Snickers (280 cal)
Best Crunchy Candy Bar: Take 5 (210 cal)/Worst: Butterfinger (270 cal)
Best Chocolate Candy Bar: Nestle Crunch (220 cal)/Worst: 3 Musketeers (260 cal)
Best Breakable Candy Bar: Kit Kat (210 cal)/Worst: (270 cal)

And for those of you looking for some new workout tunes, add these newbies to your iPod--they're on my fall playlist right now and perfect for high energy working out:
Just a Dream--Nelly
Crazytown--Jason Aldean
If It's Love--Train
Like a G6--Far East Movement
Little Lion Man--Mumford and Sons
DJ Got Us Falling in Love--Usher
Power--Kanye West
Your Love--Nicki Minaj
Cee Lo--Forget You

And no, workouts have seized to exist the latter part of this week because of my stupid inconvenient sickness, so needless to say I am missing my mileage at the gym until I get back to 100%--have I mentioned being sick stinks???  Taking it easy tonight and hoping to make it back tomorrow =)

Under the Weather

Where have I been?? No, I'm not hiding under a rock or ditching my blogging friends, however I have been sidelined with something horrid these past 2.5 days. All day Monday, I felt fine--made it through work, did my workout at the gym, went home and ate dinner, and then it started...stomach pains and lightheadedness, so I went to bed, only to wake up in the middle of the night with the worst sickness I have had in years...needless to say, I have been one sick puppy and stayed at home in the comfort of my home Tuesday and Wednesday to recuperate.
Not to mention the fact that Jeff had to leave bright and early Tuesday morning to head to Louisville for work, so he called in reinforcements to take care of me AKA mommy. There is something about having your mom there to take care of you when you're sick... she waited on me hand and foot, bringing me Sprite, crackers, making chicken noodle soup, and just sat there with me while I slept (and watched  a few girly movies in between too)... so thankful that I have such a caring mom who will drop anything to take care of her baby.
I'm back at work today, trying to see if I can make it through the day and keeping my fingers crossed. I'm finally able to keep some food down, but of course nothing sounds appetizing so that has been somewhat challenging.
Thanks as well go out to all  my girl friends for their thoughtful calls, texts, emails, and well wishes for a speedy recovery--it meant A LOT!

Finally...Home Sweet Home!!

This weekend marks the last time Jeff and I had plans to travel outside of Nashville!! Can you hear my excitement?? I am just so happy not to have to pack my suitcase for awhile and actually get to spend some time at home during the fall and winter months... ahhh home sweet home! Now let's recap this weekend:
Friday afternoon, we packed up the car and headed to Knoxville to meet everyone for Bev's birthday celebration. We started the night out at Savelli's--her favorite Italian place--and wow, we had quite a crowd. There were 20 of us there and we practically took over the restaurant, but definitely had fun spoiling the birthday girl with cards, presents, and cupcakes!
Christian, Bev, and Her Mom Ms. Joan
 Me and My Mr.
 Pam and Lisa--Yay!!
Broadway and Me... On the Right Side--HAHA!
 Jeff's Mammoth Calzone
Birthday Girl--Look at all those candles!!
 Hard Core Rappers
Me and My BFF... and Christian =)
Candice, Meg, Me... and Christian AGAIN!!
The next morning, we woke up early, had a fantastic home-cooked breakfast courtesy of Mrs. Miller, and then decided to head back to Nashville instead of going to the UT/BAMA game. We had given our tickets to Jeff's sister and her husband as he is a huge BAMA fan, so we drove home to get some things checked off our list. I will only say this once--and yes, I am glad I didn't sit through that game at Neyland Stadium because I probably would've been the loud annoying fan screaming the entire time... sad, sad day in the life of a VOLS fan and I am hoping for bigger and better things to come next year. I don't lose well--end of story.
Once Jeff and I finished tidying up our abode and picking up our new furniture from the PB, I put my culinary skills to work and borrowed a recipe from Candice for Chicken Spaghetti--delicious!! Here it is: {and yes, it is so easy to make!!}
4 chicken breasts--boil in water to cook and then cut up into small pieces
8-10 oz. of spaghetti--cooked in water that chicken was boiled in
1 can Rotel
1 lb. Velveeta (1/2 a block)
3 tbsp. worcheshire
Salt and pepper
1 tbsp of butter
Mix all the above ingredients together and bake at 350 degrees for 30 mins or until bubbly

Sunday morning, we went to church and then I was out running errands {and do a little shopping} before joining my friend Jennifer at her Sip and See Shower for new baby Bryce. Sadly, I forgot to take a picture of my present, but I bought a custom print from Little Pig Press on Etsy (below) and had it framed to match Bryce's new nursery. She LOVED it and I was so glad I was able to give her something special to keep...
Then, I called my amazing grandmother to wish her a VERY happy birthday!! Her and my Papa were out running around town picking up her new digital camera and eating dinner so I didn't get to see her, but the whole family will be together next weekend and we'll be celebrating then. My wonderful Gran--I love you more than you will ever know and am so thankful I have your name... I'm a lucky girl to have such a strong and wonderful role model in life!
Last night, I cooked Chipotle Lime porkchops with long grain wild rice and a fun fall salad--I know, I'm on a roll cooking these days, right??--and then we settled in to our normal Sunday nights of watching Boardwalk Empire and Brothers and Sisters. Now, back to the madness known as Monday, right?? Hope you all had a fun-filled weekend, too! =)

Happy Birthday Baby

I have a pretty good premonition that someone by the names of "best friend" will more than likely be checking my blog today for a little post of her very own... don't you worry your little self my dear, for this is dedicated to YOU!
"I've learned my best friend and I can do nothing or anything and have the best time"
"How lucky I am to have someone who makes saying goodbye to so hard"
"Truly great friends are hard to find, hard to leave, and impossble to forget"
"I don't need a certain number of friends, just a number of friends I can be certain of"
"When I'm asked what one happy thought is, I always say knowing that no matter how big the fight is, I will always have a best friend"
"The best memories come from the best of times, which can only come from the
best of friends"
"A friend is someone who understands your past, believes in your future, and accepts you today, just the way you are"
"friendships that have stood not only the test of time but the test of change are surely best"
"You make the bad times good and the good times unforgettable"
"A good friend knows all your best stories, a best friend has lived them with you"
"Friendship isn't a big thing- it's a million little things"
"How do you know you've found your best friend? When you are ready to talk to them about anything even though they know everything about you already"
"There are just some people in life that make you laugh a little louder, smile a little bigger, and live a littler better"
Beverly May Miller, I love you more than words can say. You are such an amazing friend and have been there for me through thick and thin. I value your opinion so very much and you are a true confidant in a world where you can trust only a few. Though you're in Knoxville and we don't see each other as often as we like, we ALWAYS make time for one another and I am so thankful that our friendship continues to grow as we enter these next chapters in life. Thank you for being such a wonderful woman! Happy 27th Birthday darling... I'll be headed your way this afternoon to spoil you with birthday delights!! OXOX

10 Things I Can't Live Without...

I found this over at Paloma's La Dolce Vita blog, and I thought what an ingenious idea for this type of post so I thought I would create a similar list of my own...

1. Find Your Freedom...Travel
To escape the hectic mess and uproar of my schedule, a trip to any destination helps me actually relax for a bit and take time for myself/Jeff and I/girlfriends/family/etc. As soon as I return from one place, I am on the hunt for the next "big thing to do" and cannot wait... I just dont understand how some people can stay in the same place all of the time--life's too short to not take in as much scenery as possible. This next year, I'll be traveling to Washington DC, Chicago, Antigua, New York {girls, this IS happening I assure you!}, and who knows what else could pop up--always wanting to take advantage of those frequent flyer miles, right???

2. Break a Sweat...Exercise
Not going to lie, some people think I am crazy for this, but it's just me and what I think is important. When I feel good about myself, I have a better outlook on everything in life and I can balance work versus personal life much easier. My exercise time is a way for me to spend some "me time" not thinking about ANYTHING at all... turn on my iPod, turn up the volume, and hit go at the YMCA. It's all about keeping myself on track and exercise keeps me healthy and happy =)

3. We are Family
Sounds cliche to some, but my family is extremely close... we spend practically every important holiday together and we are forever hanging out and having cookouts and pool parties with each other. Family is the single most important thing to me--other than my growing relationship with God--and I could not be the person I am today without having them. When I look at other people's families who are distant or don't tell each other how much they mean to one another, I can't help but be ever-so-thankful for just how much our bunch stays together through thick and thin--all goes back to my incredible grandparents and the lessons they have taught each and every one of us--such amazing role models.

4. My Digital Scrapbook... Blogging
This may sound petty, but it's my list, right?? Yes, I love to blog--as if you couldn't tell--but mostly I love to be able to open up my laptop and look back on what I experienced at any given time. Seeing as I have been writing this blog for 2.5 years now, it's funny to look back to see not only how I have changed, but how my friends and family has transformed as well. Between weddings, kids, and everything else in between, life is one crazy ride and I love that I can relive all those emotions with one click of a mouse. Not to mention I don't have to spend hundreds of dollars on scrapbooking supplies at my local craft store =)

5. Friends...Also Known as Sisters
As an only child, I had to become a social butterfly and make friends or I'd be all alone--lol. As I have grown up, some friends have changed and some have stayed the same, but needless to say, a girl has to have her friends. To gossip with, to cry to, or to share a good laugh {and cocktail} with, my gals are an incredible group of women I am lucky to call true friends. Through thick and thin, they have been there for me, just as I hope I have been a good confidant to them. I'm hoping one day we'll be the little old ladies sitting around in our hats drinking tea, too!

6. Makeup--After All, I am Southern
Au natural is not a word we use in my family, therefore, I have worn makeup from the time I entered adolescence. My Mom always taught me to always look your best and for me that ALWAYS includes wearing makeup.  I assure you the only time you'll see me without makeup on is at the gym and sometimes it's hard for me not to apply a little waterproof mascara and lip glass--haha!!

7. My Camera--Show Time!
Throughout the years, I have managed to go through at least 5 to 6 cameras, however, I end up forking out more money because I know I cannot seem to live without a camera. I am always snapping shots--random food, pretty decorating ideas, blackmailing friends, whatever it may be. They say a picture says a thousand words and I couldn't agree more. I am no Gilles Bensimon, but my Canon goes everywhere with me and I love being able to fill our home with pictures from our lives...
8. Java...Coffee...Caffeine
We all have our addictions right? Granted, some are more dangerous than others like smoking--gross-- and some are quite expensive, such as shopping, but my addiction would most certainly be coffee. I must have it, gotta have it, need it. However, I do drink my 8 to 10 glasses of H2O each day, but in between all that crystal clear water, I am sipping on pure caffeine. If there is a Starbucks within a 5 mile radius, I am certainly going to find it and make my way to the front of the line pronto for a tall house blend with non-fat milk and 2 splenda... and sometimes with a shot of seasonal syrup!

9. My #1 Prized Possession--AKA The Quote Book
Ever since my last year in college, I have written down quotes into a yellow leather journal I call my quote book. Whenever I see verses, song lyrics, or random quotes that speak to me, I ALWAYS write them down and save them for a rainy day. Whenever I am sending random notes to friends or congratulating them on their accomplishments or I need a quick pick-me-up, I pull out my handy dandy journal and read these aloud to me. Definitely helps for whatever type of mood you're in and can always bring a smile to my face.
10. Sweets... Death by Chocolate
Yes, I am talking food here people. That may sound crazy--and to some of you out there who can forego having that itty bitty bite of something sweet--I give you mad props because that's clearly not me... I gave up sweets one year for Lent and that was extremely difficult because I absolutely crave it! Don't get me wrong, I don't need a whole pie or a jumbo ice cream concoction from Maggie Moo's/Coldstone/Marble Slab, but a little dab will do me just fine and satisy that sweet tooth I just can't seem to get rid of. I usually allow myself one treat each week and I have a feeling I'll be indulging a bit this weekend...

There you have it! Nothing too shocking I am sure, but little things that make life good! =)

Wedding Wednesday... What's Next?

Alright, I think it is finally starting to settle in that we're getting married. I know, it's taken long enough, right?? Well, once I started receiving fun messages from friends and family saying they had received our save-the-dates, it made me stop and think to myself "Wow, this is really happening!'...kinda crazy that the countdown is getting shorter, and today officially marks 234 days until I become a Mrs.
So where do we from here you ask? Oh there are plenty of details I am wanting to get finalized before the holidays so I can sit back and relax and actually enjoy time with family and friends for Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years.

1. The Ever-So-Important MOB Dress: This afternoon, my Mom and I have an appointment at The Bride Room for her to begin trying on potential dresses... her and I both are SO excited  and I know we're going to find something fabulous to show off just how beautiful my Mom is--we're on the hunt for a floor length gown--elegant and refined--that will play on the colors of my wedding...sounds good to me! Some early contenders include:
2. Order the bridesmaid dresses--these will be ordered by the end of the week--woo hoo for my ladies looking gorgeous in these frocks {in black of course with no hat--haha!}:
3. Finalize Plans for the Reception Venue: On November 18th, Mom, Jeff, and I will be meeting with our reception coordinator, Laurie, to talk anything and everything reception. That day, we'll be finalizing vendors for our rentals including china, linens, chairs, lighting, draping, etc. Given that we already finalized our caterer, cake baker, band, and florist, our meeting should be fairly straightforward and I can't wait to talk through all of our ideas with her... of course, you all are well aware I have all of those details planned out in my head, right??
4. Hair and Makeup: thanks to my wonderful wedding planner, we have a great list of top wedding makeup and hair artists throughout Nashville to select from for the big day! I have reached out to a few ladies and will be meeting with them to talk details, ideas, and then book someone for me and my gals!
5. Stalk all my favorite wedding sites as they talk about all things market: check out Weddings Unveiled and Southern Weddings Magazine for recaps from every top designer! Such lovelies for all the brides that will be buying their gowns next spring...

Happy Hump Day Friends!! Back tomorrow with answers to questions, some new fashion finds, and hopefully some pictures of house progress!!
